Jesse passed away last week from injuries he sustained in an industrial accident. You won’t find a better family than the Biscamps.
Let’s see what’s been happening around the county. On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Deputy Brent Sonnier conducted a traffic stop on State Highway 12 in Deweyville for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, Deputy Sonnier observed several indicators that led him to believe there was contraband inside the vehicle. A consensual search was conducted, and a small amount of methamphetamine was recovered. The driver, James Williams, was transported to the Newton County Jail, where he was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, PG 1 <1G.
Saturday morning, I conducted a traffic stop on County Road 4101 and noticed a passenger in the vehicle was Christopher Glen Stimits. I knew Stimits to have an active felony arrest warrant out of Jasper County for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Stimits had been on the run from Jasper County for several days. He was taken into custody without incident and later relinquished to Jasper County deputies.
Sunday morning, we assisted DPS with a fatal crash on County Road 4002. Please let this serve as a reminder to drive safely, even on county roads. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
As I stated when I ran for office, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to combat criminal activity in Newton County, work well with other agencies, and maintain an open-door policy. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to reach out.
During the past week, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 61 calls for service and booked 7 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 29 inmates housed as follows: 6 in Jasper County, 13 in Beauregard Parish, and 10 in the Newton County Jail.
