from Sheriff Colton Havard
I hope everyone is having a great start to their week! Friday evening, we received a call about a white male who was highly intoxicated and walking along State Highway 63 East. A deputy and a DPS trooper responded to the scene and eventually located the individual hiding underneath a bridge. After a brief scuffle, Donald Key was placed under arrest for Public Intoxication and Resisting Arrest.
Now that deer season has ended, we are seeing an increase in thefts from deer leases. If you have the means to put out cameras, they can be extremely helpful when it comes to identifying suspects.
I want to remind everyone that we are still in the process of updating our livestock files at the Sheriff’s Office. If you have livestock, please contact dispatch at 409-379-3636 and provide basic contact information. Having this information on file saves deputies and dispatchers valuable time when trying to identify the owner of loose livestock.
During the past week, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 57 calls for service and booked 3 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 29 inmates housed as follows: 12 in Jasper County, 8 in Beauregard Parish, and 9 in the Newton County Jail.
