From Sheriff Colton Havard
Hopefully everyone is staying warm. It’s been a busy week around the county, let’s see what’s been going on.
On Monday, January 19, 2026, Sergeant Cagle was dispatched to a report of a suspicious person on State Highway 12. Sergeant Cagle made contact with Tony James Miller, who was ultimately arrested for being in possession of a stolen trailer out of Calcasieu Parish.
On Friday, January 23, 2026, Sergeant Scarborough was dispatched to a report of a suspicious person identified as Chad Allen Britt, who was walking along Nichols Creek Road. Sergeant Scarborough conducted a wanted check on Britt and discovered he had an active Parole Violation warrant through Texas Pardons and Paroles. Britt was taken into custody without incident.
Last week, we were proud to welcome our two newest members to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office: Sergeant Chad Ainsworth and K-9 Rhino. Sergeant Ainsworth comes to Newton County with many years of law enforcement service throughout Southeast Texas and brings extensive experience and training in narcotics enforcement and K-9 handling. K-9 Rhino is a five-year-old German Shepherd certified in multiple disciplines, including officer protection, tracking and apprehension, and is nationally certified in narcotics detection. Sergeant Ainsworth and K-9 Rhino will serve as a force multiplier in our ongoing fight against drugs in Newton County. Welcome to Newton County!
I’d like to give a big shoutout to our deputies, dispatchers, first responders, linemen, and TXDOT workers for keeping everything running during the freeze. These individuals don’t always get the recognition they deserve, and we truly appreciate everything they do.
During the past week, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 48 calls for service and booked 8 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 30 inmates housed as follows: 13 in Jasper County, 8 in Beauregard Parish, and 9 in the Newton County Jail.
