Hopefully, everyone had a great Halloween and the kiddos got plenty of candy! We had a lot of visitors here at the Sheriff’s Office on Halloween night, and there were many neat costumes. Luckily, we didn’t have any injuries reported during the trick-or-treating festivities.
On to other news, we conducted a fugitive operation with the U.S. Marshal’s Service on Thursday morning in Deweyville. During the operation, we safely took Steven Claude Gribble Jr. into custody. He was released to federal authorities for transport to the La Salle Correctional Facility in Beaumont.
On Thursday, October 30, 2025, Deputies Brent Sonnier and Kiana Dixon served a felony warrant on Bailey Nicole Johnson at a residence on County Road 4146. The warrant stemmed from a vehicle pursuit that occurred in Deweyville on September 27, 2025. Johnson was transported to the Newton County Jail without incident.
With deer season underway, let’s all do our part to keep Newton County clean by securing our empty corn sacks, so they don’t blow out of truck beds and end up along the roadside. Every year, we see more and more empty sacks littering our roads.
There have already been several nice bucks harvested in Newton County this weekend, hopefully everyone has a safe and successful deer season! Don’t forget, the Big Buck Contest for our youth hunters began on September 27th and runs through February 28th, 2026. Check-in locations include The Newton Deer Store, MossMade Specialty Wildlife Blends, and The Kirbyville Barn. The awards banquet and presentation will take place on
March 1, 2026.
Last week, we answered 58 calls for service and booked 11 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 22 inmates housed in the following facilities: 9 in Jasper, 4 in Beauregard Parish, and 9 in Newton.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
