
Criminal Trespass Arrest in Deweyville:
On Thursday, September 4, 2025, Sergeant Cagle was dispatched to an address on County Road 4188, in reference to a person trespassing and refusing to leave the property. Sergeant Cagle was able to identify the suspect as James Peacock, who was standing on the front porch of the residence when he arrived. Peacock had previously been warned not to come onto the individual’s property. Ultimately, Peacock was placed under arrest and transported to the Newton County Jail for the offense of Criminal Trespass.
Stolen Vehicle Recovery in Deweyville:
In July 2025, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a stolen 2015 Chevrolet Colorado off of County Road 4191. On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the vehicle was recovered by Sergeant Cagle on County Road 4192. When the vehicle was located the vehicle had been stripped. We are currently following leads in this case.
Fugitive Arrest in Belgrade Community:
On Monday, September 8, 2025, Sheriff Havard was contacted by authorities in Hardin County, who was seeking Lewis Thompson, who was wanted out of Hardin County on Failure to Appear on Driving While License Invalid – MB. Captain Smith and Chief Tibbitts went to Thompson’s residence on County Road 4089 and served the arrest warrant without incident. Thompson was transported to the Newton County Jail, where he is awaiting extradition to Hardin County.
Calls for Service:
We answered 70 calls for service last week and booked 5 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 20 inmates housed in the following facilities: 6 in Beauregard Parish, 6 in Jasper, and 8 in Newton.
