Crash at County Road 4181 and SH 12:
On Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 2:21 a.m., deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 4181 and State Highway 12. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the driver, who was identified as Sybil Elizabeth Meads. While deputies were attempting to conduct the preliminary crash investigation, Meads became aggressive and hostile towards deputies. As deputies were attempting to place Meads under arrest, she physically assaulted the deputy and other first responders. Ultimately, she went to jail and everyone is ok.
Arrest in Singletary Sites:
On Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 9:05 p.m., Sheriff Colton Havard was patrolling the Singletary Sites area of Newton County (County Road 4055) when he conducted a traffic stop for several violations. Sheriff Havard made contact with the driver, Trenton Stark, who had numerous prior encounters with law enforcement. A driver’s license check revealed that Stark had a warrant for his arrest issued by Texas Pardon and Parole. It was also noted that Mr. Stark had been flagged by law enforcement to be armed, dangerous, and has violent tendencies. Stark was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Newton County Jail.
Door Hanger Program:
Newton County Deputies periodically conduct business and residential checks throughout their shifts. Many times, deputies check residences and businesses without anyone knowing. I have equipped our deputies with “door hangers” to be placed at businesses, informing our residents that those businesses and areas will be actively monitored with extra patrols. We don’t have many businesses in Newton County, but the ones we do have will be closely monitored to ensure they do not have to close their doors due to criminal activity. You can call the Sheriff’s Office at 409-379-3636 to have your residence placed on extra patrol.
Calls for Service:
We answered 64 calls for service last week and booked 7 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 25 inmates housed in the following facilities: 3 in Beauregard Parish, 9 in Jasper, and 13 in Newton.
Thought for the Week:
Success is not final; failure is not fatal; it’s the courage to continue that counts.
I hope everyone has a great week. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to reach out!
