Cottonwood Entergy Plant Fire:
On Thursday, April 17, 2025, a fire was reported at the Cottonwood Entergy plant in Deweyville. Fortunately, firefighters were able to get the fire under control in a timely manner. Everyone was accounted for, and no injuries were reported. Great job to all involved.
Vehicle Pursuit:
On Saturday, April 19, 2025, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a vehicle pursuit was entering into Texas on State Highway 190. Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with the Newton Police Department responded and became involved in the pursuit. After pursuing the vehicle around the Bon Wier community, the driver fled back into Louisiana, where she was captured a short time later. She was brought to the Beauregard Parish Jail. Great job to everyone involved.
First Assembly of God Church Fire:
Please join me in prayer for the members of the First Assembly of God Church here in Newton. Their church caught fire and was destroyed on Saturday evening. Firefighters from several different departments worked for several hours trying to extinguish the fire.
Calls for Service:
We answered 64 calls for service last week and booked 7 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 23 inmates housed in the following facilities: 2 in Beauregard Parish, 9 in Jasper, and 12 in Newton.
