We have been getting a lot of calls about people’s dogs running on their neighbor’s property. If you are a dog owner, please be responsible and keep your dog on your own property. This will greatly reduce our call volume. Deputies were busy last week conducting pro-active criminal enforcement that resulted in 7 individuals being arrested for various charges.
Yesterday, I attended the funeral of Sabine County Sheriff Tom Maddox. Sheriff Maddox was instrumental in getting rural law enforcement funding and was very active in the Sheriff’s Association of Texas. Sheriff Maddox will be greatly missed. After the funeral, Sergeant Cagle and I answered calls for service in Sabine County while their deputies transported Sheriff Maddox to Nacogdoches. Working with our neighboring agencies is important to us and I know they would do the same for us in the event we needed the help.
We answered 75 calls for service last week and booked 8 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We have 22 in the following jails this morning: 9 in Newton, 5 in Jasper and 8 in Beauregard Parish. Thought for the week: a man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.
