On October 8, 2024, Sheriff Burby along with members of the Bon Wier Neighborhood Watch Group held NATIONAL NIGHT OUT at the Hughes Outreach Center in Bon Wier. The Neighborhood Watch Group includes Bon Wier, Belgrade, Sandjack, Biloxi, Fawil, Buckhorn, and areas along FM 363.
To my recollection, this is the first National Night Out event held in Newton County. We wanted to provide our citizens the opportunity to participate in this event, which is traditionally held annually in October throughout the State of Texas. It is designed to heighten citizens’ crime prevention awareness, generate support and participation in crime prevention efforts, and strengthen a neighborhood spirit and law enforcement and community relationships.
I want to extend our sincere thanks to all the participants and businesses that made this event possible; the Bon Wier United Pentecostal Church, Live Oak Baptist Church, Bon Wier VFD, Brookshire Brothers, Sonic Drive-In, Newton County Judge’s and Sheriff’s Offices, TDEM, and Newton’s Blue Line Advocates members. Everyone did an outstanding job making this event an overall success.
