On November 20, 2023, I released the following press release and held a news conference at Jasper County Sheriff’s Office to inform the public of the DNA results on the human remains found near the Sabine River:
DNA RESULTS OF HUMAN REMAINS AND SKULL DISCOVERED ON A SANDBAR OF THE SABINE RIVER: I want to extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all families who currently have someone missing. The DNA analysis process is now complete, and we have received the results. The human remains that we discovered in July 2023, along the banks of the Sabine River in Belgrade, have been identified. The victim was a Vidor resident, Wayne Ardel Ayers, W/M, 5’8, 150 lbs., with brown hair and hazel eyes. Ayers was reported as a missing person to Jasper County Sheriff’s Office on April 20, 2023. We held a press conference at Jasper County Sheriff’s Office to announce the DNA results since Jasper initially took the missing person report on Ayers. This is a multi-agency investigation that includes Newton County, Jasper County, and Orange County Sheriff’s Offices. Anyone with any information regarding this case is asked to contact their respective Sheriff’s or Law Enforcement agency.
