UPDATED On May 10, 2023: The victim has been identified as Jerry Lynn Reynolds W/M, a 54 Years of Age and was a Toledo Bend resident. We are still waiting on the Final Autopsy Report that will list the official cause of death. We are conducting an active death investigation and additional information will be provided when it becomes available. INTITIAL PRESS RELEASE: Body found in the water near the shoreline in the 400 Block of Easy Street, Toledo Bend: On Monday, May 8, 2023, at 0738 hours NCSO was notified that a body was observed in the water in the 400 Block of Easy Street, Toledo Bend.
2023 NEWTON HORSE CAMP: Newton County Sheriff’s Office will host our 2023 2nd Annual Horse Camp for youths. The Session 1 will be held on May 23, 24, and 25 from 0800-1200 noon each day. Session 2 will be the following week, May 30, 31 and June 1, 2023. The location for this event will be at the Newton County fairgrounds in Newton. Applications are found on the Newton County website at www.co.newton.tx.us, or may be obtained from the Courthouse and the Sheriff’s Office Lobbies. COMMUNITY WATCH: On Thursday May 18th 2023 Newton County Sheriff’s Office will host a startup meeting to organize a neighborhood watch program. The location will be at the Hughes Outreach Center at 10602 highway 190 East in Bon Weir, starting time for this event is 6:00 p.m.
Calls To Services (May 8, 2023, to May 15, 2023): The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 60 calls to service.

NCSO made 4 transports. 1 Transport from JCSO to NCSO. 1 Transport from Catahoula Parish to NCSO. 1 Transport from NCSO to Gulf Coast Clinic. 1 Transport from NCSO to Orange County.
Jail Population: We currently have 24 inmates in the following Jails, 13 housed in Newton, 9 housed in Jasper, and 2 housed in Hardin.
