Newton County Sheriffs Reports
by Sheriff Billy Rowles
Happy New Year to everyone! Where in the world did 2017 go? It didn’t last long. I gotta say one more time – congrats to the Newton Eagles Football Team for winning State. Ya’ll made us so proud!
We had a couple of accidental shootings here in the county. First one was a 19 year old male who accidently shot his best friend in the leg with a 12 gauge shotgun. He’s going to be okay, but has some serious problems to deal with. The second was a man who thought he had a prowler at his house in the middle of the night. Some how going to check out the noise he accidently shot himself in the foot. He will be okay.
Chief Deputy Hall and Deputy Hopson got information about someone trying to sell some guns. They got them located and low-and-behold they had five guns in their possession. They said they didn’t know where they came from or who they belonged to. We checked the serial numbers and they were not reported stolen yet. We are checking with ATF and putting a trace on them. Just shows how important it is to have all your serial numbers recorded.
Had a man get stabbed in the upper shoulder. He went to the Jasper hospital. They transferred him to a hospital in Beaumont. At the time he was at the hospital he didn’t want to report the assault. We are looking into it.
Constable Lane found a stolen van in the parking lot of his church. It had been abandoned there several days ago. The van was stolen from a friend of mine’s mom in Beaumont. Thanks OW.
Deer season is almost over. How about putting your trail cameras around your camps or around your homes. Any pictures you get of bad guys will help us.
Gotta go. Thought for the week: God gave us the brain to work out problems. However, we use it to create more problems.
Ya’ll have a good week and if we can help, just hollar. God Bless.
