Crime Watch: We have taken several theft reports of
“Catalytic Converters” being stolen. Please be on the watch for thieves who target “high profile” vehicles that they can easily get underneath to cut a catalytic converter off a vehicle in a short period of time.
Spring/Summer Safety Tip: The Volunteer Fire Departments in Newton and surrounding Counties are doing an outstanding job fighting fire and providing other emergency services. This spring when you are cleaning up and during control burning of old trees, limbs, and leaves let’s make sure we keep an attentive watch on those fires. I was asked to mention this in my report since we get a wide readership from around the county and other areas. Thank You.
Recovered Property: While on Patrol conducting a health and welfare check in the 5300 FM2460 in Bon Wier, a 2020 Kubota Tractor, Trailer and Bush Hog was identified to be stolen out of Dickinson, Texas. These items are now recovered, and persons of interest have been identified. Appropriate charges will be filed.
Calls To Services (March 28 to April 3, 2022: The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 87 calls.
Jail Population: We currently have 16 inmates in the following Jails, 8 housed in Newton, 8 housed in Jasper.
Jail Bookings: Last week there were 3 individuals booked into the NCSO Jail.
Jail Transports: 3/28/2022, One Inmate taken to a facility in Harris County, Texas.
