UPDATE to Press Release dated October 1, 2022 – Vehicle Pursuit that Started in Calcasieu Parrish “The Driver has been identified and charges are pending.”
ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE:
SYNOPSIS: Approximately 2:41am hours, Calcasieu Parrish Sheriff’s Office informed Newton County that they had a vehicle pursuit that crossed the State line on Hwy 12 in Deweyville.
A short time later, NCSO Dispatchers received a call from a citizen to report a suspicious vehicle near a house on County Road 4155. Newton County and Calcasieu Deputy proceeded to the area and upon their arrival gunshots were heard. As the Deputies proceeded toward the vehicle on CR 4155 while activating their emergency lights, the suspected vehicle tried to ram a Newton County Marked Patrol Unit.
The Deputies were able to steer clear of a collision of the suspected vehicle and stayed in the pursuit. The suspect’s vehicle stopped on CR 4154 and the driver was observed running through the woods.
Deputies on the scene tracked the suspect deep into the woods near the creek area. They set up a perimeter and waited on a K9 Unit from Calcasieu Parrish. The K9 conducted a track in the area with negative results.
Preliminary investigations reveal that this is the same vehicle that fled earlier from the Calcasieu Parrish Deputy in Louisiana. Additionally, we discovered that the shots fired were from a citizen who was in fear for their safety when they observed the vehicle blacked out near their residence.
This investigation is active, and this press release will be updated when more information becomes available. We want to thank Calcasieu Parrish Sheriff’s Office, and Orange County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this case. This investigation is still early, and potential charges are pending from both States.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Newton County Sheriff’s Office at (409)379-3636 or 3637.
