A wet start hasn’t dampened construction efforts on the new Lamar State College-Orange general academics building on Green Avenue. College President Dr. Michael Shahan said work is on schedule to have the building ready for the new academic year in the summer.
“It’s really going well,” he said. “We’re on schedule still in in budget and no big surprises.”
The ground-breaking ceremony for the new building had to be held inside the college gym because of soggy ground and rain storms. Dr. Shahan said despite the start, the weather was good enough through the summer to allow construction to move forward.
The multi-purpose building will have 31,000 square feet. Seven classrooms will be inside along with a large meeting room for the college and community. The room will be big enough to fit 400 people for a sit-down dinner or 700 for a lecture.
