Bridge City High School cut the ribbon on their new Cosmetology Department, showing off their expanded and updated facility.

Director Jessica Jones, who is in her eighth year at BCHS, is excited for the kids. “We’re so happy that (Superintendent) Dr. Kelly and the board saw our needs and gave us this great facility. And to CTE Director Lindy Welborn for making it happen.” Jones, a BC grad, received her cosmetology license under Karen Tomlin.
The program currently features 52 students who are working for their licenses. Besides cutting hair they also do manicures, pedicures, facials, eyelashes, and waxing. And the public can also utilize the services of the students. Jones said you can find a price list on their facebook page (Bridge City Cosmetology).
Angelina Galvan, a Cosmetology student who has worked in the old facility and now the new facility, said, “I really love it. It feels so much more like a salon instead of just a classroom experience. So many more hands-on opportunities.”
The Cosmetology Department is step one of the new and improved Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department. A groundbreaking was held March 6 for the new building that will be located behind the high school.
Dr. Kelly said, “This is incredible. Mrs. Jones gave her vision to G&G (Contractor) back in May and look at what they’ve done. The kids are excited and we think the community will be impressed when they start coming in here for the services offered.
