Nelson was born on Wednesday, February 11, 1942, in New Orleans, LA to Herman & Lena (Lee). He was raised in Westwego, LA. In 1958, his family moved to Orange where his father, along with a business partner, began a tow boat business. In 1960 he met the love of his life, Alice Fontenot, at Dairy Queen on Park St, where she was employed. They were blessed with two amazing daughters. He made a living for his family as a tug boat captain & retired after 44 years of service. Nelson enjoyed fishing, boating, duck hunting, shrimping, gardening & outside work. Most of the time he could be found outside on his tractor. He could fix anything. He was a kind, caring person who would give you the shirt off of his back if you asked for it. He cared for others so much, even in his last few weeks of life he was more concerned about his wife’s need for rest than himself. He used terms of endearment like, “Hey Buddy!” or “Hey Girl!” or even “Hey Babe!” Most of all, Nelson loved his family, especially his 7 grandchildren & 1 great granddaughter.
Nelson is preceded in death by his only son, Nolan J. Plaisance; his parents, Herman Levi Plaisance, Sr. & Lena Mary Lee; 2 brothers: Jerry Plaisance & Herman Plaisance, Jr; and 3 sisters: Yvonne Plaisance, Bessie Barrios, & Laura Sears
Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alice Plaisance; his daughters & son-in-laws: Yvonne & Dan Cook, and Angela & Michael Brown; sister & brother-in-law: Judy & Wayne Bergeron; brother & sister-in-law: Robert & Julie Plaisance; sister-in-law: Dianna (Chico Hernandez) Plaisance; grandchildren: Joel, Valerie, Erik, Matthew, Andrew, Elizabeth, & Alyssa; & great granddaughter: Avery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Southeast Texas Hospice team for the care & support given to them during the past month.
