
The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Nedra Francis, 67, of Orange, will be Saturday, Jun 28, 2025, at 11am
at the Starlight Church of God In Christ under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home. Rites of Christian will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 until 11am.
Nedra Ladine Alphonse was born on February 17,1958, in Orange Texas to Edna Brooks and Lionel “Bumpsy” Alphonse. She transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Wednesday,
June 18 th , 2025, also in Orange, Texas.
She spent most of her youth living in Long Island, New York and was a 1976 graduate of North Babylon High School. On visits to Orange in the summer, she often stayed with her maternal grandparents, Maurine and John “Monie” Lazenby.
She also met the love of her life, Johnnie Ray Francis. They were united in Holy Matrimony on June 9th , 1978. Together they would parent Nedra’s first-born son, Stephone Lawane Alphonse, and also to
this union a second son would be born, Julian Scott Francis.
Upon joining the Starlight Church of God In Christ, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in September of 1999. Nedra was a devoted and faithful member until her passing. She held various offices and was part of several committees; She was a Deaconess, Care Team Leader along with her husband Johnnie, President of the Hospitality Committee, Announcing Clerk, member of the Usher Board, The Couple’s Ministry Committee, Women’s Executive Board, Mission Department, and Assistant Coordinator of the New Members Committee.
She has worked as an Avon Representative and a Tupperware Representative where she was known
as the “Tupperware Queen.” She was also employed by Oaks Living Center as a Dietary Assistant, the Orange Country Club as a Culinarian, Cypress Street Group Home as a Provider, and was a Custodian for the City of Orange.
Nedra was the proud co-owner of Alpha & Omega Catering Services. She loved cooking and would share with all those around. She was known for her famous “Banana Nut Bread.” The love she exhibited towards others only revealed the love of God that filled her heart. She had a sense of humor that would turn a sad day into a day filled with laughter.
She was proceeded in death by her grandparents, parents, and stepmother, Bertha Alphonse. Forever cherishing her memory are her husband, Johnnie Francis; two sons: Stephone Alphonse (Shannon) and Julian Francis (LaQuanz) ; 5 brothers, Lionel Alphonse, James Jones (Rebeka), Joe Jones (Kirstin), John Jones, and Michael Davis; 1 sister Kizuwanda Greenberg (Ross) ; 10 grandchildren, and host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
