The Orange City Council Tuesday morning awarded a contract for the installation of a spray park at Navy Park. Public Works Director Jim Wolf said the city received only one bid for the installation of the equipment that has been previously purchased. The contract is going to L & L Construction of Beaumont for $58,500. (photo is an example of a spray park)
In other business, the council agreed to declare about three-fourths of an acre of city right-of-way along 15th Street north as surplus. City Planning Director Kelvin Knauf said the Planning and Zoning Commission earlier in the month agreed to declare it surplus so the city can abandon rights to the land. The city charter requires both the council and commission to approve any action to abandon a city right-of-way.
The land is by Interstate 10 and is where a new access road is being constructed at the 16th Street overpass. The land will be available for a developer to use for commercial businesses.
Keith Brice with Granger Chevrolet told the council about the 5K run-walk to benefit the United Way of Orange County. This will be the second year for the fund-raiser and it will be on Saturday, October 10. Brice said already they have raised more than $13,000 with sponsorships and the goal is $20,000.
