Nancy Henderson Hughes, of Yulee, Florida, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, after a brief illness, surrounded by loving family and friends. Nancy was born to Aubrey and Ruth Henderson on September 25, 1945, in Beaumont, Texas. She graduated from Vidor High School in 1964. When she married her husband of 58 years, Russ Hughes, in 1966, it started their great adventure of living in five states, raising two boys (and living to tell the tale), and ministering together in several churches and Baptist denominational organizations. She was known for sewing and teaching how to sew, quilting, cooking the best pork loin and green beans around, and baking all things (but her chocolate cake was almost everybody’s favorite). Since 2002, she was a member of Amelia Baptist Church, Fernandina Beach, Florida, where she sang in the church choir and ladies’ ensemble; organized church-wide Wednesday night suppers; encouraged young moms; held babies; made and altered clothes for adults and children; mended children’s loved items; took meals to folks who needed them; and just loved on everyone around her.
