Friday night the West Orange-Stark Mustangs beat Sealy 35-28 in Overtime to advance to the fourth round of the 4AD2 playoffs.
Sealy tied the game at 21 with 8 minutes to go in the regulation. WOS would fumble the kickoff return and give the ball to the Tigers on their side of the field. But the Tigers would fumble it right back to WOS. Then Sealy would intercept a Mustang pass. Three turnovers in less than two minutes would set the stage for a crazy ending.
Led by their big quarterback, Sealy would score to make it 28-21 with 2:45 left in the fourth. Braydon Gipson would give WOS good field position after a nice return. Gipson would also make a sliding catch to keep the drive alive as the Mustangs continued to move the ball with the running of Khelvy Jefferson and QB Kwalin Dugas.
Dugas would hit Gipson in the endzone with :49 left to tie. Brian Hernandez made the kick and was 5-5 on the day.
The game would go into overtime and Dugas would make a great run to get to the one yard line before Jefferson would take it in for the score. Hernandez would give WOS a 35-28 lead.
The WOS “D” would force Sealy into a fourth down play from the six yard line. The Tigers would call a throwback screen to a linemen who would catch the ball and score…but wait…the referee threw a flag and then waved off the touchdown because the linemen would’ve had to catch a backwards pass to be eligible and the pass was a forward pass. The clock was at :00 and Coach Hiawatha Hickman went to his knees as the Mustangs celebrated the win.
WOS will play Waco LaVega for the second time this season, but this time it will be in the State Quarterfinals as only eight teams remain in 4AD2. Time/Date TBA.
In Region I it’ll be Greenwood vs Brock. In Region II Athens will play Carthage a second time and in Region IV it’s Cuero vs. Sinton.

The Cardinals (11-2) saw their excellent season come to an end with a loss to last seasons 4AD1 runner up.
The Bulldogs took at 24-0 lead at the half. BC stepped up the defense in the second half but six turnovers, including one after the Cards had blocked a punt, kept the Cardinals from getting into any type of rhythm.
