West Orange-Stark continued their dominance over Little Cypress-Mauriceville Friday with a 33-6 win at Dan Hooks Stadium.
The Mustangs took the ball straight down the field on their opening drive, traveling 71 yds. in 11 plays, capped off with an 11 yd. TD run by Jalen Gilmore and a kick by Alfonso Balderas.
LCM fumbled on their first drive after a big hit by Gilmore and gave the ball back to the Mustangs at the fifty.
The Mustangs quickly turned that into six as Tahj Amerson took it in from six and a 14-0 lead. It wouldn’t be the last time Amerson saw the end zone.
The Bears were able to put together a good drive on their next series with a 70 yd. drive capped by a 20 yd. TD run by Jonah Fuller. But they failed on a two point attempt and the score was 14-6 with 10:40 left in the half.
That was as close as the Bears would come as the Mustangs continued to play well on both sides.
Amerson would score three more times including a 77 yard scamper. He would finish with 124 yds. on just nine carries. QB Marcus Turner ran for 66 yds’ on nine carries and Gilmore finished 43 yds. as WOS tallied 316 yds. of their 368 total yards on the ground.
LCM QB Dylan Payne had a nice night statistically going 10-14 for 145 yds. and a TD pass to Fuller. Keagan Cockerham caught five balls for 58 yds. The Bears finished with 222 yds.
WOS (2-0) will go to Port Neches-Groves (1-1) Friday. LCM (1-1) will host (2-0) Bridge City on the KOGT Game of the Week.
