128th District Judge Courtney Arkeen on Tuesday sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for solicitation of capital murder and possession of drugs.
44-year-old Samuel Clark McLellan pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the punishment of 20 years for each charge. Assistant District Attorney Phillip Smith said the sentences will be served concurrently.
McLellan and 32-year-old Ann Marie Gilbeaux were charged with the solicitation and possession in October.
Gilbeaux pleaded guilty before Judge Arkeen last week and received a sentence of 10 years for each charge, also to be served concurrently.
McLellan and Gilbeaux were also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine each on each charge.
Orange police said the couple had been victims of a home invasion at their house on Bridal Wreath Street in Roselawn in mid-October. McLellan was beaten and scared off the invaders by firing a gun.
The couple then tried to hire someone to kill the man who led the attack. Orange police reported Texas Rangers helped record the solicitation.
Police searched the Bridal Wreath house in late October when they arrested the couple on the warrant for solicitation. During the search, police found two-and-a-half ounces of methamphetamine, two ounces of cocaine, two rifles and two pistols.
