
The City Council in Bridge City called for the municipal election during its meeting Tuesday night. The election is scheduled for Saturday, May 2.
Four positions will be on the ballot including the mayor and the council seats for Places 2, 4, and 6. All the incumbents have filed to run for another term. Currently, there are no challengers for any of the races.
City Manager Jerry Jones gave the council an update on several ongoing and pending construction projects in the city. Parts for the filter press at the sewer plant are being received. Work has not begun yet as other parts are being ordered.
The material for the man-hole project is on site. That project will start quickly according to Jones.
The Elsie Street project is nearing completion with only curbs and some cleanup to be done. The Center Street project is still on hold because of the recent rainy weather making the area too wet to proceed.
The first portion of work on ten roadside ditches is ready to start. The engineers are still working on the plans for the larger ditch clearing project in the city.
Bridge City got some relatively good news on the $3 million drainage project and study. The work is to improve the major outfall ditches for the city. “That is a mitigation project, and it seems to be moving along rather well, so we’ll see what happens on that,” Jones concluded.
In an addendum to the agenda the City Council approved a resolution amending the request for a Texas Community Development Block Grant. The grant will be used for sewer line improvements for low to moderate income households.
Certified Public Accountant Keri Michutka presented the annual audit for Bridge City. She said the city had a good year financially in 2019 and the audit was a good one.
Police Chief Paul Davis submitted the 2019 Racial Profiling Report for the Bridge City Police Department. It was approved by the council.
