People who build houses in areas of East Orange may soon be able to get city property tax abatements similar to those given to industries.
The Orange City Council Tuesday will consider a resolution for the residential tax abatements, along with setting up four reinvestment zones.
The proposed resolution will allow a 100 percent city property tax abatement during construction for up to two years. The 100 percent abatement will continue for the first and second years after construction and then go to 90 percent on the third year.
The abatements will be 75 percent on the fourth year, 60 percent on the fifth year, 45 percent on the sixth year and then 20 percent on the seventh year.
The neighborhoods include Brownwood and Navy Park.
The council will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the council chamber next to the Orange Public Library.
