When you think of a rodeo arena, you think about Cowboys and Cowgirls, live animals, dirt and ropes. And you’re going to see that at the newly covered rodeo arena at the Cowboy Church on FM1078. But Pastor Harland Strother has much more in store for the improved facility.
There are very few places in Orange County that can hold over 1000 people and be out of the Southeast Texas weather which has ruined many outdoor events over the years. But now, with the newly installed roof, the skies the limit.

“For 15 years the church has talked about covering the arena. We got a committee together, came up with a plan, and trusted God to lead the way,” said Strother. “Along with a bank loan, we raised more than $200,000 to make this happen.”
The church has hosted a rodeo for many years as well as Play Days and many of those were hosted by T2 Arena which is just down the road from the church.
Strother sees those events and more. “Crusades, concerts, and we’re starting our Trade Days series in September,” he said. The church has already started hosting a farmer’s market on Wednesday after the owners of the shopping center on MacArthur Dr. stopped the weekly event that was held in the parking lot in front of Big Lots. “We’ve allowed them to come here free of charge and we heard they had their biggest turnout on Wednesday.”
The arena holds close to 1000 people and can hold more during concerts. There will be a stage on one end and a chuckwagon concession stand. They’ll be adding large fans under the roof and a few more improvements in the future.
Strother is celebrating his second anniversary with the Cowboy Church. Services are at 9am and 10:30 each Sunday.
