Four catalytic converters were reported stolen off vehicles parked at two different businesses along Interstate 10 east of Adams Bayou.
Orange police had the first call about the damage at 8 a.m. Wednesday to the Holiday Inn Express, 2655 Interstate 10 East. A man from Florida had the catalytic converter removed from his Land Rover. Later, a New Mexico man called to file a complaint of one stolen from his Ford pickup at the hotel.
At 2 p.m., someone at Cecil Toyota, 2500 Interstate 10 West, reported catalytic converters had been stolen from a Toyota Camry and a Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
Thieves have been cutting catalytic converters off parked vehicles in recent months. The devices have miniscule amounts of precious metals like palladium, platinum, and rhodium.
Orange police on Saturday morning arrested a man trying to steal catalytic converters from parked vehicles in a fenced area at a business on DuPont Drive. A citizen called police after seeing a man get out of a car carrying a saw and then jump over the fence.
