When a new assistance program for homeowners with Harvey-damaged houses is available, applicants will be able to go the Orange County Expo Center for help.
The Homeowner Assistance Program is setting up an office at the expo center Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, the date to file applications has not been announced.
The money is coming from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is issued through the Texas General Land Office. Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced nearly $1.1 billion will be available for homeowners of single-family houses damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Harvey.
To be eligible, an applicant must own their home and it must be their primary residence. Other factors will also be considered for eligibility. The applications will be released by region and awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Homeowners wanting to apply should get a Homeowner Assistance Program Checklist at recovery.texas.gov/hap. They should get the required documents together before the applications are released.
