Lieutenant J.E. Baggett reported officers had a 9-1-1 call at 2:07 a.m. Friday about a car in a ditch off the Interstate 10 access road at the exit by Meeks Drive. Officers found the driver standing outside the convenience store at 16th Street and Interstate 10.

At that time, police had to wait for a tow truck to get the car out of the water-filled ditch. When the car was taken to the nearby parking lot, the officers found a revolver wrapped in cloth under the trunk liner on the driver’s side.
Lieutenant Baggett said the criminal search showed the man had a previous felony conviction. Eric Demond Johnson of Houston was arrested for the felony charge of felon in possession of a firearm. He was taken to the Orange County Jail.
