The Greater Orange Area lost Dan Mohon on Sunday after his battling cancer for several years. He was a longtime businessman and civic leader in Orange County.
Mohon served the City of Orange as its mayor between 1988 to 1992. After moving his residence to Pinehurst Mohon was elected to serve on the Pinehurst City Council and was appointed the mayor in October 2019 before winning re-election during the General Election which was held in November of this year.
T. W. Permenter served with Mohon on the Pinehurst City Council and replaced Mohon as the Mayor of Pinehurst. Mohon resigned as mayor just two weeks ago on November 24 because of his health.
Permenter paid honor to Mohon, “Dan Mohon was one great man. He did great for the City of Orange and then we were lucky for him to come to Pinehurst, get on our city council, and to work with our community. He had drive to go and do things to make the citizens of Pinehurst proud.”
Mohon was a leader, but he was also a friend to everyone he met. Permenter remembered the friend he lost this past weekend. “The first election we went to we were down at the polls and he was going around visiting with people and he just showed his desire to intermingle with the people of Pinehurst to make them one great city, and like I said it’s a tragedy that we hear this, this morning,” Permenter sadly commented.
Funeral arrangements for Dan Mohon are pending at the Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
