
Michael D. Hughes, beloved father, grandfather, mentor, and community leader, passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, April 14, 2025.
Born on September 28, 1962, Michael was a proud graduate of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, earning his degree in 1986. He was a distinguished alumnus of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, forming lifelong bonds and memories with his fraternity brothers. As the longtime owner of Superior Tire & Service, Michael was known for his dedication, leadership, and impact in his profession and his community.
Michael was a longtime mentor and coach of girls’ soccer with the Spindletop Select Soccer Club in Beaumont, Texas. A dedicated father, he coached his daughters in soccer for many years, fostering not only their love for the game but also their growth as individuals.
An avid golfer and fisherman, Michael cherished the outdoors and found joy in spending time with his family and friends. Known for his generosity and kindness, he brought warmth and care to everyone around him. Michael was a true example of selflessness, dedicating his life to giving and serving others. He found joy in helping anyone in need and touched countless lives through his kindness, compassion, and unwavering generosity. His genuine care for others and his ability to bring people together created a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.”
Michael’s greatest joy came from being “Papa” to his three wonderful grandchildren, Jensen Underwood, Noah Garcia, and Mia Garcia. He treasured the time he spent with them, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter.
Michael is survived by his cherished family, including Anna Hughes, mother of his daughters, Jessica Underwood and Emily Garcia and her husband, Joshua Garcia. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Katherine Gonzalez and Kristie Jordan; and his parents, Valerie Nies and her husband, Alan Nies, and Tim Hughes and his wife, Joy Hughes.
Michael was a beacon of strength, love, and resilience, whose legacy will continue to live on through the lives of those he touched.
A gathering of Mr. Hughes’ family and friends will be 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
