On December 30, 1938 Marvin Parks Sr. was born to Dochie Weatherford Armstrong. Marvin Attended Wallace High School in Orange Texas, where he competed on the football team. He attended Bishop Theological seminary in Marshall Texas and his bachelor’s degree in theological studies
In 1963 Marvin moved to Los Angeles California to find better employment opportunities. During that same year while attending Greater New Morning Star Baptist church he met the love his life Dorothy Brown and her daughter Kim Brown. To their union two sons were born. Marvin Parks Jr. and Gary Parks. Marvin and Dorothy were married for 53 years.
In 1966 he was gainfully employed at Firestone Tires and worked there for 14 years until the plant closed. In 1972 the Lord moved on his heart to organize a church. That church was called Heavenly tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. He was affectionately known as “Rev” by his congregants and neighbors and called “Preacher” by his loving wife. He Pastored Heavenly tabernacle for 33 years. He found interest in life insurance and started working for United and Pinkerton insurance company.There he was employed for 9 years. Marvin prided himself in being a provider for his family and making sure they were taken care. In 1989 he started a new job with Los Angeles Unified School district as a plant manager for Amestoy Elementary where he retired in 2004.
After retirement he moved with his wife to Orange Texas and joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Herold Brown. Pastor Parks was a firm believer in helping young men grow in ministry. He and his wife where apart of the founding members of Mount Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Raymond Young.
On June 29, 2016 Marvin said see you later to his beautiful wife Dorothy as she took her rest in heaven. On June 26, 2020 the Lord called Pastor Parks home to glory.
Pastor Parks enjoyed golfing, bowling, and going to breakfast with his friends,t one of his greatest past times, was when both his boys would fish with him at the lake. He was a loving husband, Father, grandfather, Pastor and friend and will be dearly missed by all those that knew him.
He is preceded in death by is mother Dochie Weatherford Armstrong and his wife Dorothy Jo Parks
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his daughter Kim Brown, two sons Pastor Marvin Parks Jr.( Jean Mahoney Parks), Pastor Gary B. Parks (Kristal Parks) 9 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
