Two decades of service ended Friday at the Orange County Courthouse. Assistant County Attorney Doug Manning retired after 20 years in the District Attorney’s office.
Along with his other duties in the County Attorney’s office Manning has served as the legal counsel for the Commissioners Court and all the elected officials in the county for the bulk of his time at the courthouse. Doug shared he plans to do some crappie fishing for a couple weeks with his dad which he has been promising to do for too long.
After going fishing Manning will go to work for the Orange County Drainage District as its purchasing agent or buyer. Manning’s connection to the director of the Drainage District, Don Carona, goes back to when Doug was a law clerk for Carona back in the early 1990s. Manning related, “I’m really excited to be going over there they seem to have a really good crew and I’m glad to be a part of the team.”
As the legal counsel for the Commissioners and other county officials, Manning has had a full plate for most of the 20 years he served the county. He is ready to turn a much emptier dish over to his replacement Denise Gremillion. Manning informed there is not much in pending litigation currently, but added he will keep in touch with the courthouse personnel and Gremillion. “Obviously, I’ll be making myself available to help her get settled in,” Manning promised.
A reception was held in Manning’s honor at the courthouse his last day there.
