A man died after walking into traffic Friday on Interstate 10 near Simmons Drive where he was struck by an 18 wheeler. Orange Police did not return calls or provide information on the incident but witnesses say the white male deliberately walked in front of the tractor trailer rig.
The driver of the rig stopped and cooperated with authorities. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Westbound traffic was stopped for a couple of hours while the scene was investigated.
The call came in not long after the westbound lanes were reopened following an accident that occurred less than a half mile away. According to DPS at approximately 5:30am a box truck was on the side of the road when an 18 wheeler failed to stay in one lane and struck the back of the box truck, spreading debris and gas and oil on the road that had to be cleaned up with a skid steer. Fortunately the driver was not in the box truck when it was hit. No serious injuries were reported.
