
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a fatal auto-pedestrian crash on state Highway 62, south of Interstate Highway 10, that occurred Friday, February 27, 2026.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 8:15 p.m., a Toyota pickup was traveling south, while a Chrysler sedan was traveling north. It is reported that a pedestrian entered the roadway and was struck by the Toyota. After impact, the pedestrian was thrown into the northbound lane where they were struck again by the Chrysler.
The driver of the Toyota and the Chrysler were not injured.
The pedestrian, identified as 34-year-old Jeffrey Beritiech, of Bridge City, was pronounced deceased on scene by a Justice of the Peace.

Friday night a 34 year old man was pronounced deceased by Judge Rodney Price after he was struck by two vehicles as he tried to cross Hwy. 62 in front of the Pilot.
All lanes of Hwy. 62 in that busy area were shut down for hours. DPS is investigating.
