A resident of Orange learned the hard way about buying a car on social media. He is now out $1,000 in eBay cards.
The man went to the Orange police station Tuesday to report the fraud. Police said he saw the vehicle on a Facebook sell site on Sunday and contacted the person selling it. The two then communicated through Gmail. The purchaser was told to use the eBay gift cards to buy the vehicle on the eBay site.
However, he never got the vehicle and eBay did not have records of the deal. The case is being investigated as wire fraud.
