A 49-year-old man has been convicted of murder in the death of Bami Carmane of Rose City and sentenced to life in prison.
A jury returned the guilty verdict against Adrian Caesar Echevarria on September 24, 2026. He was sentenced to life confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division.
According to investigators Echevarria, who is from McAllen, was incarcerated at a federal prison in Beaumont when he used a contraband cellphone to create an online dating profile. He and Carmane began communicating in January 2025 and developed an online relationship.
Echevarria was released from prison on August 20, 2025. Investigators said Carmane picked him up at approximately 2 p.m. that afternoon. Within 12 hours, she was dead.
Authorities said Carmane had purchased a truck for Echevarria and provided him with a cabin on her property where he could live. Investigators determined that Carmane was in the cabin with Echevarria when she was killed.
Afterward, investigators said Echevarria attempted to clean up blood and conceal other evidence inside the cabin. He then went to the main house, where Carmane’s niece was staying, and asked for help.
Carmane’s niece went to the cabin, found her unresponsive and immediately called 911. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office arrived and found Carmane deceased.
The case was tried by First Assistant District Attorney Bard Anderson and Orange County District Attorney Krispen Winfree. The investigation involved the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Rangers, Jefferson County Crime Lab, DPS Crime Lab and pathologists with Forensic Medical Management Services.
