
On Thursday, October 7, 2021, at approximately 11:03 p.m., officers with the City of Orange Police Department were dispatched to the James Zay Apartment Complex, located at 610 Burton Avenue, in reference to a male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as 33-year-old John Wolford Flanagan. Flanagan was transported by Acadian Ambulance to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Since the time of the incident, detectives with the City of Orange Police Department have continued to actively investigate the case. Through ongoing investigative efforts and the continued review of evidence, the case was presented to an Orange County Grand Jury. On March 11, 2026, the Orange County Grand Jury returned an indictment for Murder against 32 year old Trennis Termaine Chargois Jr. On March 12, 2026, Chargois was taken into custody in connection with the murder of John Wolford Flanagan.
