The bicyclist who was hit by an Orange Police Department patrol vehicle early Tuesday morning has died of his injuries at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. 19-year-old Devon Lynch Lestage was riding the bike on the eastbound Interstate 10 access road near Adam’s Bayou when he was struck about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the collision because it involved an Orange police officer. Trooper Stephanie Davis said Lestage was riding the bike facing the oncoming traffic. Witnesses said he did not have lights on the front of the bike.
Officer Brian Latiolais was driving the patrol vehicle. Trooper Davis said he was not injured.
