On September 7 at 7:30 pm the Orange Fire Department responded to a grass fire in a vacant lot near 13th Street and Sholars in Orange.
As the first fire truck arrived a man later identified as Quincy Ledet began threatening the fire fighters and threw trash and a trash can in their direction. Ledet’s action also blocked the flow of traffic which further impeded the Orange Fire Department’s ability to extinguish the rapidly expanding fire.
Officers from the Orange Police Department responded and placed Ledet into custody, and cleared the traffic jam, permitting the fire department personnel to begin fighting the fire.
Witnesses approached the police officers and identified Quincy Ledet as the person who started the fire, and reported seeing him run from the fire after a small explosion.
No homes were damaged, and no injuries were reported. Entergy responded and found that an electric pole had been damaged and would need to be replaced.
Ledet was arrested and charged with Arson and Impeding the fire department’s response.
