The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a crash on Interstate Highway 10, near the 874A-mile marker, that occurred Saturday, June 10, 2023.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 1:50 p.m., a 2022 Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer and a 2014 Hyundai Elantra was traveling east and slowed due to traffic ahead. It is reported that the driver of a 2001 Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling east and failed to control his speed and struck the rear of the 2022 Freightliner and the 2014 Hyundai. The 2001 Freightliner then caught fire. The debris from the 2001 Freightliner spilled into the westbound lanes and was struck by two other commercial motor vehicles.
The driver of the 2022 Freightliner, identified as 43-year-old Kyle Taylor of Pennsylvania, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
The driver for the 2014 Hyundai, identified as 41-year-old Nasser Benamar of Houston, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the 2001 Freightliner, identified as 47-year-old Dwight Hampton of Humble, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
The make, model and driver information of the two other commercial motor vehicles involved are pending at this time. There were no injuries sustained during the secondary crash.
