The Greater Orange Area Literary Services (GOALS) held their annual Spelling Bee Competition Friday. Seven teams of three had the tough task of looking at an audience while trying to spell tough words from Pronouncer Andy Preslar.
One by one the teams fell until the Lamar State College Orange team of George Scarborough, Janet Lemons, and Shawn Smith were left standing at the end after having to spell two words (that we had to look up!) “seneschal” and “sgraffitto.”
GOALS is a literacy program which prepares people to take their GED, teach English as a second language and help individuals below 6th grade level to read. For more information call (409) 886-4311.
