Battling the heat and a difficult surface, Orange artist Lauren Leigh Stanley finished her latest mural, this time at the Student Center at Lamar State College Orange.
“The texture was pretty intense as well, but I love a good challenge!” she said. It took her several months battling the heat, many days spending as much as five hours while trying to keep a steady hand.
“LSCO had important things they wanted highlighted in it so I made the design to incorporate it all. It was so fun to have two different styles going on throughout the mural. I can’t thank Lamar State College Orange enough for this opportunity.”
The mural features Orange slices and a picture of the original Tilley Elementary School that was later turned into a college that most called Tilley Tech. There is also a portrait of the school’s namesake, Bill Tilley, the 2nd Lieutenant who died during combat in WWII. Also featured is the LSCO mascot, Tilley the Gator, along with President Thomas Johnson’s favorite LSCO slogan “Where Hope Meets Opportunity.”
The look of the downtown Orange area continues to improve thanks to local artists like Lauren and the vision of the city, businesses and organizations.
