The City of West Orange, the Orange Housing Authority, and the Itex Group held a joint ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday at the new Whispering Oaks Apartments. About 50 people attended the ceremony.
The low to moderate income complex includes 70 apartments in five buildings with a separate clubhouse facility. Whispering Oaks is located at the site of a former public housing project in West Orange.
The Orange Housing Authority hired Itex to construct the apartments. Chris Akbari the CEO of Itex appreciates the great cooperation provided by the City of West Orange to help demolish the previous rundown property, to get the necessary funding, and to go through the permitting process to complete the project. Akbari complimented, “It’s been a pleasure to work here in the City of West Orange.”
Chairman of the Orange Housing Authority Mike Combs is thankful for the work done by Itex. “Let’s give the people a roof over their head where they can relax enough to be able to find the strength to take that course so that maybe they can get a little bit better job so that their kids have a better opportunity. Just for an opportunity to be a part of that is a blessing to me, and I think I can stretch and say a blessing to all of us on the board.” Combs concluded.
Whispering Oaks Apartments is located on Memphis Street by Western Avenue in West Orange. Funding for the complex was done through Hurricane Ike Recovery Grants. Residents were expected to start moving immediately.
