You’ve seen the name Jacob Longlois on KOGT.com many times over the years as an accomplished fisherman on the LCM Bass Team as well as the LCM Honor Roll. The young man has put his love of fishing together with his brain and come up with a great idea.
It’s called a life jacket tree and he’s built one to put at a boat ramp with a sign that reads “Save a life, take a jacket. Take one if you need it or leave one if you have a spare.” Longlois said, “Hopefully someone will use it and save them a ticket from the game warden or maybe even their life.”
Longlois’ fishing success and his efforts to help his community has earned him the title of KOGT Athlete of the Week, sponsored by First Financial Bank.
Longlois admitted he ran with the idea that he got from his boat captain Joel James and made it happen. It’s weighted down with a tire and cement and the PVC hooks on the end will keep the jackets from blowing off.
Currently he only has one at a boat ramp on Toledo Bend. Similar to the Blessing Box idea, you could see how this idea could be used at any ramp. Longlois said he wanted to see how his idea is received before proceeding. He also has an idea on a tree that would keep the jackets dry.
“He is an incredible kid,” said Nellie Miller, the LCM Bass Team sponsor. “Jacob creates his own lures and repairs rods. He teaches and shares his knowledge with other anglers all the time. He has been to BassMaster Nationals twice and has already qualified for his 2nd MLF World Championship, that will be in Wisconsin in June. And he just won the TBNY on Toledo Bend in January.”
He’ll be fishing two tournaments this weekend, so Good Luck Jacob and Congrats!
