Lona Vazquez, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and member of the Orange, Texas Community, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025 at the age of 90. Born on March 8, 1935, in Maurice, Louisiana, she was the cherished daughter of Aubrey and Edith Dronet and sister to Paul Dronet.
Lona’s life was defined by steady love, selfless service, and boundless generosity. She was the devoted wife of Johnny Vazquez, who preceded her in death, and the proud mother of three children and their spouses: Ronald Rost Sr. and wife Debbie, Denise Block and husband Granvel, and Timothy Rost, all of Orange, Texas.
Her legacy lives on through her nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, all of whom were deeply shaped and blessed by her love and strength. She equally loved and adored all of her nieces and nephews.
Lona spent many years working with dedication and excellence at Orange Savings Bank, where her hard work and integrity earned her the role of Comptroller. But her professional success was only one part of the rich life she led.
A woman of deep faith, Lona faithfully served and attended her local church. Her heart for people extended beyond her family, as she poured her time, energy, and love into others around her. She gave generously, helped those in need, and served others with grace and humility.
Lona was the heart of her family—our matriarch. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and joy, where the scent of Cajun family recipes filled the air and brought us all together. Her legendary holiday gatherings created a tradition of love and laughter that we will pass on to our children.
She was also an avid seamstress, known for crafting beautiful dresses and an endless supply of lovingly handmade clothing for her family. Her talents were so many and her love was what made them special.
Lona loved God, her family, and her friends with all her heart. She lived a life where actions spoke louder than words—a life of faith, love, and devotion. Her memory will be cherished forever, and her impact she made on our lives will always be our greatest treasure.
We celebrate her life and thank God for giving us the greatest mom and granny we could ever ask for: the faithful, constant, steady woman who gave her very best for us all.
Lona will be laid to rest alongside her brother and parents in Maurice, LA, with a private family graveside service.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Golden Years Assisted Living and Southeast Texas Hospice for the compassionate and dedicated care they provided to our mother during her final days.
