Two commercial vehicles were involved in a multi-vehicle accident Tuesday on Hwy. 62.
At approximately 1:00p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on SH 62 in Jasper County. The crash occurred near CR 826.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 2002 Chevrolet SUV was traveling southbound on SH 62. A log truck loaded with timber was traveling northbound on SH 62 followed by a second log truck hauling timber. The driver of the Chevrolet crossed the center dividing line into the northbound traffic lane. The driver of the first log truck swerved to avoid a head-on collision, but was struck near the rear of the pole trailer. The impact caused the Chevrolet to spin into the path of the second log truck. The Chevrolet collided with the second log truck causing the pole trailer to flip onto its side and loose its entire load of timber.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Jeremy Erwin, 41, of Newton, sustained visible injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene.
The drivers of the log trucks, 58-year-old Bailey Glaze of Louisiana, and 44-year-old Bobby Perego of Jasper, were not injured in the crash.
At this time, all northbound and southbound traffic lanes of SH 62 are closed. Traffic is being diverted around the crash scene, but there is no time estimation as to when the roadway will reopen to traffic. Expect delays.
Erwin was issued a traffic citation for failure to drive in a single lane.
