Fishing the Resilience Outdoor Tournament on the Sabine River, Justin Royal of Bridge City won the tournament with one of the best “kicker” fish ever on local waters, a 9.73 pound largemouth bass.
Royal said he caught his fish pitching into some reeds on the Sabine using a black/blue Stanley Jig with a green pumpkin Rage Craw trailer on 65# braid.
Royal told KOGT he has caught a number of six pounders on the Sabine, but never anything this big. His bag totaled 18.26 pound at the weigh-in at the Orange Boat Ramp. She was released back into the river.
Let’s see if the Bassmaster Elites can duplicate Justin’s feat when they hit the Sabine April 6-9!
