A trailer carrying a load of carbon and sulfur dust caused the Flyin J Truck Stop to be evacuated Thursday night until Friday morning.
Orange Fire Chief John Bilbo they believe a gasket on the tank holding the material may have been leaking and it allowed air inside which allowed the chemicals “to cook.”
The tank let out some smoke and the relief valve was burping so officials took precaution and closed the busy location which included moving all of the 18 wheelers that had stopped for the night.
Firefighters kept water and monitors on the tank to keep it cool all night according to Bilbo.
HazMat officials and companies owners were consulted by OFD while Orange Police kept all of the entrances and exits closed.
Friday morning the all-clear was given and the trailer was allowed to continue to Louisiana.
