Linda Marie Raborn Carroll passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2024.
Linda was born November 11, 1947 in Jacksonville, Florida, to William (Bill) Raborn and Marie Hartley Raborn.
While she spent much of her childhood in the Bahamas, she was a graduate of Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville, Florida. She then attended Florida State University before relocating to Lufkin, Texas with her parents. She later moved to Orange, Texas, where she met her future husband, John Parker Carroll.
John and Linda have resided in Orange for many years, where they raised their two sons, John ‘Scooter’ Carroll, Jr., and William “Bill” Carroll.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her uncle Robert ‘Bobby’ Raborn.
Linda is survived by her husband of 56 years, as well as Scooter and wife Lisa of Orangefield, and Bill and wife Tricia of Valdosta, Georgia, as well as her sister, Dana Raborn Jones and husband Stan of North Carolina. Also left to cherish her memory are Hayden, Zoe, Maddie and Carter, her precious grandchildren.
Linda was a Member of First United Methodist Church in Orange, Texas, and worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. A natural caregiver, she earned a degree in nursing from Lamar University and became a registered nurse.
Linda spent her career working for hospitals and medical practices across Beaumont and Orange, where she held positions ranging from floor and emergency department nurse to Chief Nursing Officer. Her true calling, however, was when she became an instructor of nursing at Lamar State College, where she spent nearly three decades teaching and cultivating future nurses. She loved and took great pride in her job and cared for her students like they were family. There are likely very few medical facilities in the area without a nurse trained by Linda, and she is remembered fondly.
Her most cherished role, however, was in being a doting mother, and ‘Memaw’ to her loving family. Her grandbabies were the apple of her eye. She enjoyed hearing about all their academic and athletic achievements with a warm smile and enthusiastic heart.
Her warmth and love will forever be missed by those lucky enough to be loved by her.
